TEAMS & TRAINING

+ How do Sonics teams work?

The Sonics offers development though competitive and travel youth basketball teams for 3rd grade through high school boys and girls in the Salt Lake metro area. Tryouts and player placements occur annually in August. Players can choose to participate for the year or per season. Our teams compete in the Dimple Dell Super League and some teams may also compete in local tournaments. Travel teams will compete in regional AAU tournaments.

+ What do the team colors mean?

Team names are displayed such as "5th Grade Boys Black". The colors correspond to division levels.

Black: This is our most competitive team and is generally a travel team.

Grey: Competitive team. Teams will play in local tournaments and local leagues.

White: Competitive team. They will play in local leagues.

Academy: Development/Semi-Competitive team and training. Will play in internal tournaments and scrimmages.

+ What about leagues & tournaments?

Most Sonics teams compete in county Super Leagues during the winter and spring. Winter season is December through February and Spring season is March through May. Games are typically on Saturdays.

Most teams will compete in local AAU tournaments. Competitive and Travel teams will also compete in regional AUU tournaments.

League and Tournament costs are in addition to the monthly Sonics fees.

+ Do you offer individual training?

Our partner, Utah Top level Training (UTLT), offers private training, semi-private training, group training and development leagues. Learn more

REGISTRATION & FEES

+ Is online registration required?

Yes. Once your player has been named to a team, we require all players to be registered online. There are no EXCEPTIONS. Not registering can result in being dropped from a team.

+ How do I get an AAU number?

Visit AAU Sports Page. When prompted for the Sonics Club Code, enter this number: WYD8C5

+ What is the cost to play for Sonics?

Cost to play on a Sonics team is approximately $1,710.00 per season, per player, whether you play for one season or more. This fee covers your gym costs, coaching, 4 local league entry fees and administration fees.

A separate cost will be incurred for any tournament and travel fees.

The local leagues we will be playing in are: Fall Super league, Winter session I & II and Spring Super League.

Sonics uniforms and gear are a separate cost: $100 to $180.00.

We offer an installment plan in which you can pay monthly on auto payments for 10 months. Sept 1st - June 1st.

+ Do you take cash payments?

Cash payments are not accepted. All payments and invoices are done online with a credit or debit card.

+ Do you offer player scholarships?

Yes. Under certain circumstances, we do offer a limited number of scholarships to those who qualify. Our players should always have the opportunity to participate and we believe financial constraints shouldn't prohibit a player's ability to grow and develop in the sport. + Do you fundraise or accept donations?

Yes. We offer fundraising options for players and teams to help offset the fees associated with playing on a team.

+ Is there a refund policy?

Acceptance into the Salt Lake Sonics team program is based upon tryouts and team availability. Each accepted player is making a commitment to both the program and the team. Therefore, the policy of Salt Lake Sonics is to issue NO refunds after acceptance into the program and team. If a refund is deemed necessary, every situation will be handled on an individual basis and must be approved through the Program Coordinator.
